VETERANS’ BIOGRAPHIES

CYRIL HOLBROW World War Two

Cyril served in the Canadian 2nd Infantry Division, 5th Brigade, with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

Cyril went ashore at JUNO Beach in the D-DAY Landings at Normandy, France, attached to the Calgary Highlanders Regiment.

He experienced heavy enemy fire when the Highlanders fought at the battle for Caen (pronounced Carn) and later with the Maisonneuve Regiment at the battle for Falaise.

For his participation in the D-Day landings, Cyril was awarded the Legion of Honour Medal by the French Government.

Later he was stationed in Germany with the Army of Occupation at Jever, near Wilhelmshaven.

ANDY ANDERSON World War Two

Andy served in the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division, 7th Brigade, with the Royal Canadian Scottish Regiment and the Army Service Corps.

Andy served in France and was involved with the transportation of vehicles from Marseilles.

Later he served in the Army of Occupation in Holland where he performed several acts of humanity for Dutch families. He sent home to his sister for a pair of shoes for a little girl in Holland whom he saw walking in the snow in bare feet. He helped another family by going to a camp for Displaced Persons to obtain the release of their father so he could rejoin his family for Christmas.

JOHN MOLNAR Korean War and Peacekeeping

John served in the Royal Canadian Navy in HMCS Athabascan during the Korean War from 1950-53.

Later he saw Peacekeeping Service in HMCS Cayuga in Japan, Hong Kong and the Far East. Also during Peacetime he served in four other ships with his last home base at Cornwallis, Nova Scotia.

DAN NORDGAARD Korean War and Peacekeeping

Dan served in the Royal Canadian Navy in HMCS Cayuga during the Korean War.

Dan served in other ships in Peace Time including HMCS New Glasgow, which was once rammed, and on the HMCS Saskatchewan which had an encounter with rocks. He was Fire Chief on the HMCS Gatineau and he was involved in electronic warfare
