New Cenotaph Plaques Dedication
On June 15, the new updated plaques on the cenotaph were dedicated. Legion members present were Wendy Schmidt, Kelly Watson, John Molnar, Sheila and Peter Slade, Jim Happer, Daniel and Libby Bucar, Harvey and Marilyn Goodwin. Also in attendance were Bruce Banman, MLA for Abbotsford South, Abbotsford City Councillor Sandy Blue, Kris Foulds from The Reach and others.
Unfortunately, Legion Padre Kim Taylor was called into work and hence was unable to formally dedicate the new plaques. Mayor Braun was not present so the only organized talk was that of branch historian and webmaster Peter William Slade, who was there to talk about the historical research into the missing soldiers, the need for new plaques and their development. Plus he also gave thanks and named all those involved with the planning, fund raising, and installation of the new plaques.
The new plaques have the World War One plaque on the front face of the cenotaph with the twenty “Forgotten Soldiers” added. A fuller story will follow in another article later.
